The couple shares this passion: He enjoys the research of the history of the Belgian brand, she loves the photography of the bags, the craftsmanship and wearing of the handbags. The passion of Jerry & Grace was ignited with the discovery of a book about the rich history of Delvaux in a Brussels bookshop. “The history of Delvaux goes back nearly 200 years in which thousands of different bag designs were issued. I particularly enjoy discovering the stories of the bags and the designs.” explains Jerry. “We started our collection out of pure curiosity initially, but very quickly it became a real passion. Grace enjoys wearing the bags, but also they allow her to fuel her other passion for photography. Finally we wanted to share our passion with other people.” Passion This is how the couple created the Instagram page @mydaydaybelgium, in which they put their vintage Delvaux bags into a modern context. “We are showing our bags to other Delvaux lovers here and also sell a few pieces through our website www.mydaydaybelgium.com” says Grace. “It is fantastic to connect and meet others through our passion. Some things you can buy easily, but a handbag with a story that has lived through the ages, is unique and you need to be able to find it. We believe that a vintage handbag is not something old, but rather that the old is the new. A vintage Delvaux is timeless, with a modern beating heart and also a sustainable choice.” Authenticity Up to now Jerry & Grace have collected around 150 Delvaux handbags. “It is not easy to source them. We buy them mainly from private owners and some shops, which we discover. We have already travelled thousands of km across Belgium to source our collection pieces.” “It is not easy to find them, but it is even more difficult to find them equipped with the original certificate. Sadly, there are many fake Delvaux available in the market and authenticity matters to us. Thanks to the knowledge we have built up over many years, we are able to recognize most real from fake bags, still we often still authenticate our pieces with Delvaux to guarantee authenticity at all times. Thereby we carry only genuine Delvaux bags in our collection”, clarifies Jerry. Our babies A price Jerry & Grace cannot put on their collection. “Delvaux bags are quiet luxury – when you know, you know. It is an immensely popular brand that is gaining a lot of international attention also, which is affecting the value of the bags. Due to the limited production volumes, the difficulty for the Delvaux bags is to also to find them – particularly the vintage. Certainly our collection has value, but we do not look at it this way. We treat our bags as if they were our children – we cannot put a price on them. We enjoy to research them and take pictures of them in a modern context. Our family life includes photoshoots and the sourcing of our bags to the extent that even our daughter is affected: she already crafts paper handbag models adorned with the letter “D”. It is a great passion to enjoy together and share with other people”.
