Through their website, MyDayDayBelgium, they have become a reference for Delvaux enthusiasts."Nowadays, when we see a handbag, we can identify which period it was made in." The Brussels-based couple’s passion for the Belgian luxury brand began almost ten years ago. Jerry immediately became fascinated by Delvaux’s history, while Grace focused more on the craftsmanship and photography of the handbags. What started out as curiosity eventually grew into a project far beyond what they had initially imagined. The couple began searching for exceptional pieces and, over the course of around three years, built a collection of 150 handbags. During that time, they also met and connected with many other collectors. "The funny thing is that the business hasn’t cured our collecting problem - quite the opposite. We still get incredibly excited whenever we acquire or discover a new piece, and we love the sense of surprise and discovery that Delvaux offers us compared with other brands. That is why, alongside selling hundreds of bags, our own collection has continued to grow considerably as well." International Jerry explains that interest in Delvaux handbags has grown enormously in recent years. "And this particularly internationally. Almost 40 percent of the handbags we sell go to an owner who lives outside Europe. Vintage Delvaux handbags are not only beautiful; they also embody an extraordinary level of craftsmanship, and the brand has a history stretching back almost 200 years. It is this combination that makes the brand so popular. Many of the collectors who come to us are already very familiar with Hermès or Chanel, but they are looking for something unique that they won’t find anywhere else - and that is what they discover in our Delvaux collection." Over the years, Jerry and Grace have built a strong network of collectors and sellers, giving them regular access to exceptional pieces that do not necessarily appear on the open market. "But compared with the early years, it has become much more difficult to find these pieces today. They are far more sought-after and have also become considerably more expensive. On top of that, it has become increasingly difficult to find the handbags in impeccable condition," Jerry explains. "There is also the risk of counterfeit pieces circulating on the market. Over the years, we have closely examined and studied more than a thousand examples, and by now we have trained our eye to distinguish genuine pieces from fakes. I can also tell straight away which year a handbag was made. Sometimes I’m off by a year, but that doesn’t happen very often," he laughs. Sablon Design Market From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September, Jerry and Grace will be at the Sablon Design Market. "Preserving a handbag is much like storing a fine wine: it requires the right temperature and storage conditions. Our collection can normally only be viewed online, but for the Sablon Design Market, we are bringing an exceptionally large selection with us. Visitors will have the opportunity to see and feel the handbags in person, which offers something quite different from simply looking at photographs on our website. But above all, it is those encounters with fellow collectors and enthusiasts that we enjoy the most. They give us tremendous energy and motivation to keep doing what we do." The Sablon Design Market takes place from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September at the Grand Sablon in Brussels. Jerry and Grace will also be present at the Grand Sablon throughout the event.
