Delvaux vintage shoulder bag 1964

Avant garde doctor style, top handle - short shoulder handbag, designed by Genevieve Deshayes for the 1964 spring summer collection. The 60s brought a real fashion revolution with many bag makers experimenting with new materials and shifting towards a more slouchy look. This great example is a testament to Delvaux's continuous pursuit in finding its own way to designing a timeless bag that still speaks to both generations and the design revolution of the 60s. The handle is soft and longer allowing an over the shoulder - younger - look, a step away from the rigid top handles preferred by the previous generation. The leather - still high quality box calf - in navy, thereby keeping to a classic look, whilst avoiding the traditional classic brown or black of the 50s. The bag's clasp closure furthermore is moulded in silvery metal, instead of the traditional gold plated closures. The doctor - bump shaped - exterior still sends a message of tradition, whilst the size and its simplicity speak to the modern and more and more independent becoming woman.

It can be worn day to day or for a special event - but no matter when this bag and how it will be worn, it will always be a head turner - being very simply just a very beautiful handbag. It is in overall impressive condition inside & out with only some minor signs of usage on the leather in view of its 70 years of age, having lived through already several generations of family love.
