When Madame Hallez created this charming little top handle bag for Delvaux in autumn-winter 1957, she was inspired by an old dance set against some plain instruments, but which would stay with her due to its engaging rhythmic refrain sections that gave it lively heartbeat. Today it is complex to imagine, how this may have inspired this incredible work of Delvaux craftsmanship, but one cannot forget that in 1957 Brussels still hummed with quiet confidence in the built up of the world exhibition and that Delvaux's little workshop of gifted artisans was building to execute perfection and techniques. Personally i want to believe that this bag was meant to also represent the nonchalant, humourous - hinting at the absurd - kind of patriotism - we find in the Belgians and in their dances. Structured in impeccable box calf, the bag left its makers hands and found its way to the cobblestone streets of brussels out on her way to collect moments the same way others collect stamps. Her owner travelled usually mainly between the cities of Antwerp and Brussels with family rooted in both cities - usually by means of the train and one can easily imagine the rattle of the rails and the laughter at the markets forming an integral memory of this bag whilst it bows at strangers throughout its little journey. One can easily imagine its multitude of compartments carrying the train tickets of another era. Wonderfully preserved she is a collector's item for connoisseurs of craftsmanship and quiet luxury. You dont make them like this anymore and you also cannot. Delvaux  authenticated her for us and she is awaiting patiently her moment to create new memories.
