There is something rather enjoyable about taking a Magritte to work: The bag has the appearance of a sensible workbag whilst allowing its owner a litlle private amusement. Somone accross the meeting table may notice the hat, whilst someone else may only see a handsome leather briefcase crafted in elegant taurillon leather. 

Delvaux found a skillful way to re-insert two symbols of Magritte in one design - assuring a double meaning and the notion that there is more to this or the carrying than it seems: To the outside it is the man with the bowler hat - the anonymous respectable silhouette symbolising the facelessness of modern society and allows you thereby to discover the unconventional mind. The inside of the bag plays with its 1953 Golconde painting and suggests an unpredictability to the initial silhouette. In Golconde, dozens of almost identical gentlemen in bowler hats appear suspended above an ordinary residential street. They are impeccably dressed, arranged almost systematically, yet apparently unaffected by gravity. A world of order thereby contains a world of impossibility.

We love the way Delvaux subtly reminds us that behind every conventional appearance stands an individual with their own thoughts, ambitions, imaginations and style. This bag dresses the carrier, but it is not the bag that makes the carrier - it is the carrier that makes the bag.
